Scott Pelking is in private practice in El Paso, TX. He is a licensed professional counselor supervisor (LPC-S) in the State of Texas and a licensed clinical mental health counselor/supervisor (LPCC) in the State of New Mexico.. He is Choice Theory and Reality Therapy certified (CTRTC); he is a Registered Play Therapist/Supervisor (RPT-S); and he is an EMDR Level 2 Complex Trauma and Dissociation Specialist. His therapy approach in play therapy is child centered. He uses Reality Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients learn to declare their values, then learn how their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and physical condition (total behavior) either help them approach their values or reject them. Clients learn to self-evaluate their total behaviors, then choose to make better choices. “Languaging” plays a vital role in therapy, since we put thoughts and beliefs into words which influence our emotions, thoughts, and actions. In cases of simple trauma, Mr. Pelking employs EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). In cases of complex trauma and dissociation (complex PTSD), he uses a combination of EMDR, RT, ACT, and Internal Family Systems (IFS), as well as sand tray therapy and art therapy. Mr. Pelking has done more than 50 professional presentations locally, regionally, and nationally, including a national Choice Theory/Reality Therapy conference.
